Cops: Ex-con killed over drugs

HOMICIDE detectives believe the murder of ex-convict Andel Alleyne, whose body was dumped in a Couva canefield, was drug related. Police sources said Alleyne, 28, of Waterhole, Cocorite, was a known felon with convictions for cocaine trafficking and firearm-related offences. His most recent conviction was on December 15, after he was found guilty of possession of cocaine.

The deceased’s body was found in a canefield at Old Rivulet Road, Milton Village, around 11 am on Sunday. It bore several gunshot wounds to the groin and lower body and police believe Alleyne was executed Saturday night and his body dumped in the canefield. Up to late yesterday, police were trying to contact Alleyne’s relatives to have them identify the body, after which an autopsy will be performed at the Forensic Science Centre, Port-of-Spain. Acting Sgt Ramlogan of the Couva CID is heading investigations.
