Baksh: Strong management for BWIA
Former UNC Works and Transport Minister Senator Sadiq Baksh has called on the Manning administration to reintroduce “strong management” in the operations of State-owned airline — BWIA. Addressing a media briefing at the Opposition party’s Rienzi Complex in Couva on Thursday, Baksh said BWIA had degenerated into a “classic case of a State enterprise.” Baksh said, “What we are seeing is inefficient management. We are seeing poor on-time performance and citizens facing continuous hardships.” Asked if the UNC would support a regional airline, Baksh said that the Opposition party was not against one, but questioned the wisdom in the merger of two failing airlines — Liat and BWIA.
