NIDCO audit completed...trimming of the fat soon

On the same day the audit was handed over to the Board, a senior manager went on emergency leave and did not return to office up until yesterday. Sources revealed one of the recommendations is that there are too many workers at the company whose services are being duplicated .

Newsday understands there are 160 workers assigned to NIDCO and 60 are expected to be fired soon. NIDCO sources said now that the report has been handed in, “There is expected to be trimming of the fat.” Workers said yesterday they were supposed to receive their salaries on the 23rd of the month, but only received their pay last Friday, May 26 .

They were allegedly told that NIDCO does not have the requisite cash to continue paying all 160 workers and termination letters will be handed out soon as part of recommendations to cut costs .

Sources said NIDCO has not been operating at a profit due to the shut down of the construction of the Pt Fortin Highway .

However, government has stated its intention of building other highways and NIDCO’s role in these projects will be important .

Yesterday, sources told Newsday that several contract workers were employed despite no requisite qualifications and they are expected to be among the 60, to be given termination letters .

Contacted for comment yesterday, NIDCO president Esther Farmer claimed to be unaware that an audit had taken place. She also said she could not state that it was a fact that plans are afoot to send home 60 employees soon .
