Clerk of the Peace investigates Bajan’s matter

Worrell, 41, of Half-Moon Fort, Barbados, was arrested, charged and granted bail pending appeal for possession of ten grammes of marijuana in 2013.

Four years later, Worrell is still in Trinidad and is yet to have his matter heard in the Court of Appeal because the notes of evidence have not been sent from the Tunapuna Magistrates Court to the Court of Appeal.

Without a national ID and with an unenforceable deportation order hanging over his head, the painter has been unable to find work.

Newsday contacted the clerk of the peace yesterday morning to ask about the status of the notes of evidence.

Declining to give her name, she said she was asked yesterday morning to look into the matter.

She declined to comment further.

Also contacted yesterday, the Judiciary’s corporate communications department acknowledged Newsday’s emailed queries and gave an assurance that it will respond by the end of the week.
