Chinese couple robbed, cops nab bandits
At about 11.30 am, Francis Lee Lon and his wife Sylvie were at their Fourth Street, Barataria, home when they were confronted by three men, one armed with a knife.
The men ordered Sylvie and Francis to hand over cash and jewelry, said to be valued at $13,530. The frightened couple pleaded with the bandits not to harm them. They were tied up and the bandits fled.
However, the victims were able to quickly untie themselves and alerted the police.
North Eastern Division Task Force officers led by Sgt Guelmo, who were in the area, responded within minutes and apprehended the three bandits and the driver of the getaway car.
All the stolen items were recovered and the four suspects, ages 19 to 43, from the Toco and Tunapuna areas, are expected to be placed on identification parades.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Surujdeen Persad and Snr Supt Surindra Sagramsingh yesterday commended the officers for their quick response.
Persad said with the arrest of the four they may be able to make a breakthrough in a series of robberies in the North Eastern Division and other areas of the country.
