UNC prepares for 2005

THE UNC will outline the new challenges facing Trinidad and Tobago in 2005 and review national events over the past year at a news conference which will be held at Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday’s Port-of-Spain office at 11 am on Sunday. The UNC’s national executive was scheduled to meet at the party’s Rienzi Complex in Couva yesterday at 3 pm to discuss Sunday’s killer earthquake in South-East Asia and how the Opposition could contribute to TT’s efforts to assist in recovery efforts in that region.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Patrick Manning announced that TT will provide financial assistance to South-East Asian nations affected by Sunday’s tragic events. The Prime Minister said Cabinet will decide on the quantum of TT’s financial aid when it meets next Thursday at Whitehall, in its first meeting for 2005. The UNC was also due to discuss its strategies and activities for 2005. The party is scheduled to hold constituency executive elections during the first quarter of 2005 and this will serve as a forerunner to national executive elections later in the year.
