TT water polo teams begin CCCAN campaign

First up on the schedule of events, Team TTO ’s U-15 Boys will be facing the Bahamas in a best-of-five series, starting at 1:30pm, with one match being competed each day. Team TTO ’s U-18 Boys, looking to make a positive start to their campaign, will be playing Barbados in their opening match of the preliminary rounds at 2:30pm.

With the majority of the Under- 18 squad set to participate in the 17 and Under Pan-Am Youth Tournament at the end of the month, head coach of the boys Under-15 & Under-18 teams, Alan Too-A-Foo, said his players have put in the hard work and are ready to execute what they have practised.

“As we have been preparing for the upcoming Pan-Am championships, the guys have trained to the best of their ability and should have it fairly simple, but with the other teams coming in, we all have to be mentally disciplined,” he said.

Both teams coached by Too-AFoo trained for 10 sessions per week in the build-up to the competition.

They focused on sharpening their techniques and basic skills of the sport with respect to their movement off the ball and passing.

Too-A-Foo added, “It starts with discipline and commitment.

If you are not committed to the task at hand and remaining mentally focused, the target would not be achieved successfully.” Team TTO ’s Senior Female team are set to battle Venezuela at 4pm and their head coach, Charissa Hackshaw, stressed the importance of a strong defence heading into the Championships.

Senior Men’s team head coach, Andrew Francis, will also be hoping his athletes are able to unite their strengths in defence and produce a match-winning performance against Cuba at 7:15pm.
