Puerto Rico whip TT in Under-18 Water Polo final
For Puerto Rico, Jose Loubriel registered six goals while Miseal Andino netted a beaver-trick.
Jafet Hernandez notched a treble and Adrian Torres got the other for the Under-18 Men champs.
Jean Luc Hinds and Chad Rowley each scored hat-tricks for the hosts, with Jason Hackett chipping in with a pair. Tyrece Joseph, Charles Gillette and Jameel Atteih got one goal apiece for TT .
Earlier, in the bronze medal match, Jamaica edged Barbados 7-6.
On Sunday, Rowley’s 10-goal tally helped Trinidad and Tobago to book a place in the final, after trouncing Jamaica 18-6 on Sunday.
Rowley’s goals were accompanied by Hackett’s beaver-trick along with two goals from Hinds.
Joseph and Gillette also scored one each for Team TTO in the onslaught. Cody Jones managed to net three goals for Jamaica in their attempt to stop the hosts, however, contributions from teammates Matthew Sterling, Julian Kenney and Andrew Paul were not enough on the day to secure a berth in the finals. Puerto Rico breezed pass Barbados 15-4 in the first semi-final on the day.
Six Puerto Rican players scored as they dismantled the Bajans where Miseal Andino paved the way to the finals with his four goals. Jose Loubriel netted three while Rodigo Cianchini along with Adrian Torres, Robert Bendt and Jafet Hernandez all scoring two goals in the contest.
Dalla Grau and Daniuksha Carrasco led Cuba to another victory in the Open Female category, this time thumping Puerto Rico 10-4.
The duo, along with Cecila Diaz, scored two goals apiece as the Cubans won the match convincingly.
Mexico emerged victorious over Venezuela 6-5, in the same category, as they battled to the very end of the thrilling contest.
Both teams moved the ball around the pool swiftly resulting in 10 different players getting on the scoresheet for the sides. Lucia Caraballo’s second goal was the decider for the Mexicans over their Spanish-speaking counterparts.
