Scotiabank gives solid advice to youth
Addressing a group of high school students yesterday at the launch of the Families in Action youth leadership programme at the Cascadia Hotel, St Ann’s, Ghany said the skills the students learn will help them to become well rounded individuals who contribute to society.
Scotia Bank Foundation working with Families in Action, he said, was part of its commitment to investing in young people and communities in the areas of education, empowerment and the environment.
In an outline of the two-week programme which ends on July 21, Youth Education Manager Ken Ramdhan said the objectives of the programme are to develop the skills and tools of the students to be effective leaders, to facilitate well rounded individuals, and to foster civic engagement with communities and non-governmental organisations.
He said, it will also enhance their academic learning. The students who were selected from schools countrywide based on recommendations by the schools, were on the criteria that they possessed leadership qualities and were willing to support fellow youth leaders. “We want to instil in you that it is necessary that as you progress, you bring others with you,” he said.
The programme will include in house workshops and field exercises with a focus on community service. The students will be exposed to social issues such as literacy, poverty reduction, health and health promotion, crime, and substance abuse and addiction among other topical issues
