Education, responsibility of all

Speaking at the ministry’s ‘Research in Education symposium and Knowledge Marketplace 2017 at the Hyatt Regency in Port of Spain, Garcia said the theme, Researching now, Impacting the Future, succinctly captures the premise of the ministry’s pursuit, which is to adequately equip students, at every level, to successfully engage and influence the future, not just as individuals but for the greater good of society. “It is through this exchange that we are equipped to develop and implement evidence- based policy and practices with a view to lasting and productive changes to the sector. Today you will hear from several of our collaborators, and your peers and leaders in education. We want to hear from you. Garcia said while children’s learning is holistic and takes place in the midst of their various experiences and interactions, educators must be careful and deliberate in how they interact with them to ensure that each experience is a productive one. He said the discussions from the symposium will shed light on strategies and solutions to enhance classrooms outcomes whether through curricula adjustments or innovative approaches to engaging students and their parents.

“We will hear from students during the panel discussions. This is significant as these are the stakeholders that matter most. When we create the policies and the plans, the students are the ones that are affected and it is important to get their feedback.” He encouraged his colleagues in education, to fully participate in the event - both the workshops and the marketplace - so that they can leave the event with an idea of what the Ministry is going after.
