Carter, Trestrail progress at Commonwealth Youth tennis
Carter advanced to the next round of the boys singles with a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Xander Owen-Vasilis of Anguilla. In the girls singles, Trestrail recorded a straight set win over Jendy Chrisma Au of Solomon Islands.
The TT girls and boys beach soccer teams also made winning starts to their campaign.
The TT girls trounced Turks and Caicos 5-2, while the TT boys defeated Antigua and Barbuda 2-1 on penalties after regulation time ended 6-6.
Results did not go this country’s way in beach volleyball.
The boys duo of Devaughn Martin and Daynte Stewart lost to Ghana 21-11, 21-17, and also fell to Papua New Guinea 21- 13, 13-21, 15-9.
In the girls category, Ebony Williams and Tsyan Selvon went under to the New Zealand team 21-9, 21-18.
It was a day to forget for the TT girls in the rugby sevens.
TT did not score yesterday, losing 29-0 to Fiji, 62-0 to Australia and 53-0 to Wales.
Today the athletics segment of the Games will begin. TT will be represented by Akilah Lewis in the girls 100m, while Adell Colthrust will line up in the boys 100m for TT .
