Special voting starts in Tobago
VOTING in the January 17 Tobago House of Assembly (THA) elections has started. Officials at the Elections and Boundaries Commission (EBC) said the voting process in Tobago began on Tuesday and is expected to continue until Sunday, with approximately 532 special voters expected to cast their ballots during that time. These persons include members of the security forces, EBC employees and others who would be precluded by law from voting on Monday.
EBC officials in Port-of-Spain indicated that Tobago’s 12 electoral districts have been evenly divided among four returning officers in order to facilitate a smooth running of the process. Officials overseeing voting for the districts of Scarborough/Calder Hall, Bacolet/Mt St George and Lambeau/Signal Hill said the voting process was going slowly, but there were no problems. Similar sentiments were expressed by EBC officers overseeing batch in another batch of districts which included the Plymouth/Golden Lane seat currently held by DAC leader Hochoy Charles.
