Kidnapped accused sent back to St Ann’s
A PENAL man, accused of kidnapping a six-year-old girl from a primary school two weeks ago, reappeared before a Siparia magistrate yesterday to answer the charge. Magistrate Maria Busby Earle Caddle ordered Andy Mohammed to be re-admitted to St Ann’s Hospital for further evaluation. When he appeared on January 5, the day after the incident, the magistrate ordered Mohammed to undergo a psychiatric evaluation the request of his attorney, Ramnarine Surjansingh.
The charge alleged that on Tuesday January 4, Mohammed walked into Dayanand Memorial Vedic Primary School at Ramjohn Trace, Penal, and took six-year-old Nayel Rampersad of San Francique Road against her will. The accused was charged following investigations by PC Andre Mitchell of the Penal Police. When he reappeared yesterday, court prosecutor Sgt David Bernard presented the magistrate with a letter from doctors at the St Ann’s Hospital. It requested more time for doctors to complete Mohammed’s evaluation. The magistrate granted the request and postponed the case to January 27.
