Mayaro man’s body washes ashore

THE body of 20-year-old Timothy Ali of Biche Village, Mayaro, washed ashore yesterday morning, two days after he drowned in the mouth of the Mitan River. Ali, of Plum Mitan Road, had gone swimming in the river on Sunday, but around 6.45 am yesterday, relatives found his body washed ashore on the Manzanilla Beach, a mile away from the river mouth.


Police said Ali was bathing with relatives and friends, when around 5.30 pm he experienced difficulties and disappeared under the water. District Medical Officer Dr Maniram Rampaul viewed the body and ordered its removed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital mortuary. An autopsy was expected to be performed yesterday. Mayaro police are investigating.
