Public health inspectors tour Savannah food booths

PUBLIC Health inspectors from the Port-of-Spain City Corporation made spot checks on vendors at the Queen’s Park Savannah over the weekend as part of their drive to ensure compliance with public health regulations for the Carnival season. The inspectors, led by head of the department Sayed Ali,  visited coconut vendors, Carnival booths and snow-cone carts in the area, for display of current food badges, proper and clean attire of those involved in the preparation of food, refrigeration of perishable items, sanitation levels in food areas and proper disposal of waste.

During the inspection, officers expressed concern for the use and upkeep of disposable toilets in the Savannah.  The inspectors were also dissatisfied with the inadequate facilities for run-off water containing grease and food particles that would result in the proliferation of flies. Also during the inspections, officers observed wood contaminated with bird feathers and dried droppings being used in the construction of booths on upper Frederick Street.
