Drowning at Matelot
Tragedy struck the Seventh Day Adventist Church camp at Matelot on Monday when one of their members drowned while bathing at Nylon Pool in the Matelot River. According to police reports, at about 3 pm, Frank McPherson, a 16-year-old student of North Eastern College, Sangre Grande was in the company of other members of his church group at Matelot River, when McPherson took a dive into the 16-foot Nylon Pool and disappeared under the water.
Members of the church group went to his assistance but they were unable to save him. Matelot police visited the scene, following which McPherson’s body was eventually retrieved. around 8.30 pm by divers. District Medical Officer Dr Chalam viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Sangre Grande mortuary.
