Three in court for murder

THREE Claxton Bay youths, one of them a 14-year-old, appeared yesterday before a Chaguanas magistrate charged with the murder of Claxton Bay foreman Ashford Luckhee. Ronnie Thompson, 22, Darryl Kuar, 17, and the 14-year-old — all of Forres Park — appeared before Senior Magistrate Nanette Forde-John in the first court, where they were not called on to enter a plea, since the charge is a capital offence and is laid indictably. Luckhee, 54, was found dead in a canefield behind Chaguanas Police Station with chop wounds about the body.

The victim, who was a foreman with Damus Contractors, was abducted on Ash Wednesday and his body was found two days later. The accused trio were arrested by police on Monday and were charged by Cpl Salick of Chaguanas CID. Magistrate Forde-John remanded Thompson and Kuar into custody at Remand Yard in Golden Grove while the 14-year-old was remanded to the Youth Training Centre (YTC) in Arouca. They will reappear on March 7.
