2 labourers charged with kidnapping Maraval vet

Two labourers employed at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital will appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today charged with the kidnapping of Maraval veterinarian Azizmul Rahaman. The 63-year-old vet was snatched from his animal clinic last Tuesday by two men posing as customers. The kidnappers, who were accompanied by a dog, tied up customers and an employee of the vet and then bundled him into a car.

Last Friday night, Rahaman was released in Morvant after his relatives paid a ransom. On Sunday, officers of the St Clair CID, under the supervision of Supt Martin Morrain and including Sgt Hudson and Detective Singh, stormed two houses at La Seiva Road in Maraval, and Romain Lands, Morvant, where they arrestedtwo men aged 35 and 25.Police also recovered part of the ransom money paid by relatives of Rahaman. The two suspects were taken to the Port-of-Spain CID where they were interrogated. On Tuesday, an identification parade was carried out and attended by Dr Rahaman. Yesterday, the two were charged by Sgt Creighton Hudson of the St Clair CID. Nine persons have been kidnapped for the year. The arrest yesterday is the first for kidnapping this year. A Curepe man was jailed last week for staging the kidnap of his son.
