Nigel Soyer on a mission

TRINIDADIAN gospel artiste Nigel Soyer is committed to sharing the gospel and impacting lives through his inspiring music. This talented young vocalist was born in Arouca where he joined the gospel group Highest Praise. He remained in the group for most of his teenage years and that was where his love for music became even more passionate. Nigel’s desire to fulfill his God-given destiny inspired him to write, produce and sing. While recording a Roger Boothman Christmas composition at the Caribbean Sound Basin Studios, Long Circular, he met producer John Afoon and was given the opportunity to co-write and sing on a project that resulted in the hit single “Call Me.”

“Call Me” made it to the charts and gave Nigel global visibility — he was no longer TT’s best kept secret. This opportunity opened many doors for Nigel, enabling him to expand his musical career. In 1994, Nigel completed his first CD I Am Here which entered the gospel and secular music charts in TT. The title track topped the Caribbean Music charts, while the single “You Are My Everything” reached Number Two on the Top Ten Chart in Zone Magazine. Nigel was rated the “hottest act in the region,” giving him opportunities to travel to Gospel Music Week in Nashville, Tennessee, with renown gospel artistes CeCe Winans, Marvin Sapps and Lionel Harris. Nigel has performed with and opened for other gospel greats, including Steve Green, Ron Kenoly, Alvin Slaughter and Helen Baylor.

Nigel’s heart and love for youth inspired him to perform at the Resurrection Vibe Youth Gospel  Concerts. He also did the opening and closing of the first New Year Vibe Youth Gospel Concert presented by Tom Thumb Productions. Nigel’s faith and genuine talent continue to inspire. His sincerity shines with every song he writes, produces and performs. A bio just produced on the popular TT artiste states: “The purpose of Nigel’s heart-filled music is to bless everyone who hears it.  His music represents praise, worship and love for Jesus Christ. “Nigel’s lyrics represent some of his own personal life experiences where the Lord has given him strength to endure to the end.”

Currently residing in Canada, Nigel released his second album, You in Me, on March 12. In addition to the title track, featured songs on the CD include “I Depend on You”  and “Just Between You and Me.” Nigel is currently working with Alabaster Box Entertainment, a company founded by his wife, Christine Diaz-Soyer. The company’s slogan is “To be broken and poured out, changing the atmosphere through music.” According to Diaz-Soyer, the company is “looking for people who are serious about impacting lives with their gifts and talents.” “People who are willing to break out of themselves in order to change what we hear on the air waves today and change the atmosphere of music.” Nigel continues to perform extensively. He is looking forward to returning to TT to “minister to my fellow Trinis in the near future.”
