Marlon’s ganja song on a high
Conscious reggae artiste Marlon Sobers aka Marlon Asha hopes to intoxicate his listeners with his debut song “Ganja Farmer” when he begins his upcoming tour of Tobago and Jamaica. The father of three girls from Enterprise, Chaguanas, coined his theme song from an older selection of his, named “Ganja Man.” When asked if he was a “ganja farmer,” Marlon Asha responded: “I am not a farmer, it is just a meditation.” He said he believed he was a messenger on earth sent to “deliver a serious message. I am just waiting for him (God) to reveal his message,” Marlon said. He said the name “Asha” was derived from the 12 tribes of Israel and represented the spirit of Christ.
His message to the youth: “Your talent should never go to waste, with God all things are possible. Pray hard and you will succeed. Trust meh!” Marlon was exposed to singing in the church choir at his grandparents’ church, at age seven. A lover of music, he decided on singing conscious reggae as it touches his soul. Marlon is also a pan arranger for New Age Trendsetters, whose members range between seven to 17 years of age. The small band placed in the Panorama zonal finals this year. To date, he has performed his song, “Ganja Man” at various clubs including Club Coconuts, Club Prosperity, City Limits and Shipwreck, alongside DJ Black Chariot. Marlon thanks his God, as well as Carl “Beaver” Henderson, Geron “Big G” Woodruffe at Caribbean Underground Productions and the radio DJs who continue to support local artistes.
