Son of former Jamaat member on arms and ammo charges

The son of a former Jamaat-al-Muslimeen member appeared before a Port-of-Spain Magistrate yesterday charged with the possession of arms and ammunition.

Appearing before Magistrate Avason Quinlan in the City’s Four B court was 24-year-old David Daud Abdullah who was charged on Wednesday for possession of a 9mm revolver and several rounds of live ammunition.

When the charges were read to the accused yesterday, Abdullah pleaded not guilty.

He was then granted bail by Magistrate Quinlan in the sum of $240,000.

Abdullah was allegedly held on the Brian Lara Promenade earlier this week with the loaded semi-automatic pistol.

He was arrested and charged by officers of the Besson Street police station.

Abdullah’s father who was involved in the 1990 attempted coup, recently renounced violence in the country.

The matter was adjourned to July 8.
