Double murder on George Street
THE murder figure went up by two on Thursday night with the killing of two gang members on upper George Street, Port-of-Spain. According to reports, around 8.25 pm Ronnie Peters, 20, of Nelson Street, Port-of-Spain and Joel George, also 20, of East Dry River, Laventille were liming on George Street when two men dressed in dark clothing walked up and fired several shots. The two men ran a short distance and collapsed. The gunmen walked up to them and fired several more shots. Both men were rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where they were pronounced dead on arrival. When Sunday Newsday visited the area frightened residents refused to divulge any information. Relatives also refused to speak. Investigations revealed that the gang members have several shootings, robberies, and firearm related charges before the court. The two murders bring the tally up to 197 for 2005. Police believe the killings are related to the ongoing gang war in the area. Besson Street police are investigating.
