City worker found inside barrel
THE charred and decomposed body of a 46-year-old man was discovered stuffed inside a barrel outside his San Fernando apartment early yesterday morning. According to reports, a party of police officers investigating a report by neighbours about a foul smell emanating from the Skinner Street premises in San Fernando, found Rudolph Sammy, 46, stuffed head-first inside the barrel. Sammy was a San Fernando City Corporation employee and rat-poison vendor. Investigators also found a burnt piece of cloth near the barrel while Sammy’s apartment, located at the back of the house, was smeared with blood. Sammy, who was last seen on November 16 at approximately 11 pm, had been reported missing by relatives. Sammy’s brother, Ramnarine, said he last saw his brother, who lived alone, last Wednesday during a visit to his apartment. A relative had told him, Ramnarine said, that Sammy was missing. Ramnarine, who admitted that Sammy smoked marijuana occasionally, said his brother did not have enemies as far as he was aware. Sammy was an employee, he added, who was well liked at his workplace as well as in the neighbourhood. "I don’t know who would do something like this," Ramnarine said, adding that his deceased brother had one child, a daughter, who lives in the United States. ASP Ruthven Paul of the Homicide Division is heading investigations.
