Three murdered between Wednesday and yesterday
Three men were shot dead in three separate incidents between Wednesday night and 8.30 am yesterday, pushing the murder toll to 343 people murdered for the year to date. The first murder occurred at 10 pm Wednesday at Upper Quarry Street, Diego Martin. The victim, Colin George, 22, was standing near his home when he was confronted by a gunman who shot him five times. George was rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. George’s relatives denied that he was involved in illicit activities, saying that the killing came as a shock to them. Police investigators told Newsday that George was linked to gang activities, adding that he had been marked for death. They said his killing is linked to two recent murders in Diego Martin. The second killing took place at about 8 am yesterday. Sean Pierre, 20, of Small Street, Second Caledonia, was standing near his home, when he was riddled with bullets. Pierre was pronounced dead on arrival at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital. Pierre, a construction worker, was described by neighbours as "a cool person who kept to himself." That killing was also described as gang-related. Finally, at about 8.50 am yesterday, the bullet-ridden body of Mosi Raymond, 24, was found lying at the side of the road at Picton Road, Laventille. Relatives claimed that he was abducted, stabbed and shot, and his body dumped at Picton Road. His wife, who preferred not to be identified, said the last time she spoke with her husband was at 7.30 am. She said her husband, a wire-bender, was probably abducted and murdered by someone he knew. The woman denied that her husband was involved in gang-related activities. Calling for swift justice, the woman stared at Pierre’ picture in a camera phone outside the Forensic Science Centre yesterday. Pierre was the father of two children ages four and two. Investigations are continuing.
