Cocorite man gunned down
A 23-year-old man was shot dead while on his way to visit a female friend on Sunday night. Keith Anthony Smith of Waterhole, Cocorite, was walking on Freedom Street, when he was confronted by a man who shot him several times. As Smith slumped to the ground, he shouted out the name of his killer. Police investigators told Newsday that the killing may be gang-related, and an arrest is imminent. The dead man’s relatives were unwilling to be interviewed yesterday, but an eyewitness said that Smith was marked for death. The witness said Smith was advised to keep a low profile, but refused. Smith is the 350th person killed for the year. Officers of the St James Police Station are investigating.
