Former murder accused gunned down
A MAN of Block Eight, Laventille, who twice escaped murder charges, became the nation’s latest murder victim on Tuesday night. According to reports, residents at Nelson Street apartments heard several gunshots at 8.30 pm. When they investigated, they found the bullet ridden body of known gang member Dexter Kemkaran, 27, alias Kempy, on the ground. Kempy was discharged from prison three months ago for a murder committed three years ago in Maloney Gardens. Several years before that, he was released from prison for another murder committed in the Besson Street area. Kemkaran’s brother, Brian Kemkaran, was killed on Independence Day while leaving a Santa Cruz pub. Another brother was killed some years before in Port-of Spain. They were all victims of revenge for shootings and gangland warfare. Kemkaran has another brother serving time in prison for murder. According to reports, when Kemkaran was released, his former "associates" tried to get him back because of his shooting skills, but he refused. This resulted in some "bad blood," and he started hanging out with another kidnapping gang in Bon Air Gardens, Arouca, moving back and forth between both gangs. This infuriated the members of the Laventille gang (near his home) who placed a hit on his head. Kemkaran is the 353rd person to be murdered in 2005. After his execution, the decomposed body of a man believed to be murder victim number 354 was found in a barrel at Skinner Road, San Fernando. Visiting the PoS murder scene were DCP Glen Roach, ASP Goopsersad, Sgt Winston Stewart, Cpl Darryl Jodha and Sgt Crieghton Hudson of the Homicide Division who is investigating.
