Digicel lights up Woodford Square today
This year’s lighting of Woodford Square was saved by Digicel at the last minute. President of the Downtown Owners and Merchants Association (DOMA) Gregory Aboud said the project was almost cancelled because a contractor for the project could not be found. Aboud told Sunday Newsday the association made an effort to start the project too late and ran into difficulties in logistics, until they were offered the unsolicited assistance from Digicel. “We had trouble with the electrical works and finding a contractor for decorating the Square,” said Aboud.
Aboud said the project was nearly abandoned until Digicel came “out of the blue” and offered assistance in lighting the square. Tremendous cooperation was also given by the Trinidad and Tobago Electricity Commission (TTEC) and Port-of-Spain Mayor Murchison Brown. Aboud is asking for the public to walk with their candles which he said will be lit together with the electrical lights at the ceremony taking place today at 5 pm in Woodford Square. There will be entertainment by Los Parranderos de UWI and the Juenes Agape Choir, and also addresses by Port-of-Spain Mayor Brown and DOMA President Gregory Aboud.
