TSTT cable box sabotaged

MORE THAN 400 of TSTT’s corporate customers in San Fernando were unable to make or receive telephone calls yesterday. Telephone lines were knocked out Thursday night in an act of sabotage of TSTT’s installations on St James Street, San Fernando.

In a statement yesterday, TSTT said that one of its cabinets had been tampered with, leaving 400 businesses on High Street, St James Street, and Pointe-a-Pierre without telephones. Newsday’s South office was affected as people were unable to contact the newsroom and advertising departments.

TSTT stated that the incident occurred on Pointe-a-Pierre Road near Carlton Centre. Red, blue, yellow and white telephone wires were ripped out from the cabinet. The cabinet is encased by steel and is normally padlocked but, according to TSTT, the culprits burst the lock to gain entry. When Newsday visited the scene yesterday, the coloured wires were hanging from the installation box.

TSTT’s corporate communications manager, Camile Salandy, told Newsday yesterday that the perpetrators had cut the cables.

On the discovery yesterday morning of the damage, Salandy said TSTT dispatched technician crews who worked all day to restore service.
