Cops hold Brazilian, Colombian, Venezuelan prostitutes
TWENTY women of foreign nationality and four locals were arrested for prostitution on Friday night in Chase Village, Central, Trinidad. The women are from Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. They were handed over to the Immigration Department, while the four locals will appear before a Couva magistrate on Monday charged with lewd and suggestive dancing. The 24 women were part of a group of 53 persons arrested during a Central Division Police exercise held between 2 pm on Friday and 9 am yesterday in which two firearms were seized, a Grand Couva family of three was arrested with one of the weapons, a Belmont woman was held for murder and malicious wounding of her nine-year-old son, a man was held for a recent rape and murder. Eight persons, including a suspended policeman were arrested along with two store owners for selling camouflage army type clothing in three stores at Francis Plaza, Chaguanas. Others were held for drug possession, house breaking, rape and on outstanding warrants. According to reports, around 9.30 pm officers of the Chaguanas CID and the Central Division Task Force went to Rich Gold Night Club, Chase Village, Freeport where they held the 24 women in lewd and suggestive positions. Prior to that they went to the stores where the seizure and arrests were made. The exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Barnett Mayers and Supt Rattansingh. Field operations were led by Insp Stephen Ramsubhag, and included Sgts Rudy Villafana, Hayden Mackenzie, Bobby Noyam, Cpls Niron Joseph, Ronald Persad and PC Marlon Thomas and Curtis Pierre.
