Man killed in highway crash
SHAVINAN NACKCHADIE, 28, left home to pick up his girlfriend from work in Chaguanas on Sunday, but he never made it. Nackchadie, of Bonne Aventure Road, Gasparillo, was killed after his car crashed into an embankment along the Solomon Hochoy Highway at 3.30 pm. Nackchadie became the 19lst road fatality and the seventh person to die in a vehicular accident over the weekend. According to a police report, Nackchadie was heading north in his white B-12 Sentra, when he lost control of the vehicle near the Claxton Bay flyover. The report stated that the car then crashed into an embankment on the side of the road. Motorists on the northbound lane, who witnessed the crash, pulled Nackchadie from the wreck and contacted the EHS ambulance service. Nackchadie, who was unconscious, was rushed to the Accident and Emergency Department of the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) where he died while undergoing emergency treatment. Nackchadie’s father, Charnath, who was yesterday awaiting a post-mortem at the SFGH’s mortuary, told Newsday that his son had planned to marry his girlfriend next year. "But that will not happen now," he sobbed. Charnath, a father of four, said his son worked as a truck driver with Pepsi Cola in Marabella, and was looking forward to spending Christmas with his family. Insp Sookram and Cpl Williams of the Couva Police Station are investigating.
