UNC Dookeran meets DAC Jack
UNC Political Leader, Winston Dookeran said that his meeting with THA Minority Leader and DAC Chairman, Ashworth Jack, was not to hold talks of any political union but rather to discuss the best way forward for the country. Dookeran yesterday met with Jack at his office in Mason Hall as part of his weekend tour of the island. The meeting, described by both as “extremely favour-able”, dealt mainly with the developmental challenges facing the island, among other topics, as well as the possibilities of the two working together in the future to overcome these challenges. Dookeran however, emphasised that the meeting was basically exploratory to determine how best they “can work together for the development of Trinidad and Tobago and the politics of Trinidad and Tobago” but no talks have been held about a political alliance.
He said that there were no plans as yet of having an office set up in Tobago. Jack said that the meeting was that of a group of concerned citizens who were seeking betterment for the country. “We have not gotten to the stage where we have talked about any political union or anything like that. What we are looking at is that we are citizens of this beautiful country and we need to find common ground as a people to solve the problems that currently exist. And so I think that we have started a very beautiful relationship as to how we will find that common ground,” Jack further explained. Following the meeting, Dookeran and his entourage, which included Sadiq Baksh and Barrington “Skippy” Thomas, were expected to meet with persons in several villages of East Tobago to listen to their concerns.
