Abuser stabbed to death

SEVERAL YEARS of abuse ended in tragedy yesterday morning after a woman stabbed to death a close relative during a scuffle at her Freeport home. Ricky Ramsubhag, 34, died instantly after he was stabbed once in the chest with a knife around 5 am, police said. Up to late yesterday a 41-year-old mother of three was detained at the Freeport Police Station. A police report stated that Ramsubhag and the suspect were involved in a heated argument in the living room of the woman’s house at Roy Clarke Road, Calcutta No 2.

According to the report, the man began to beat the woman and a struggle ensued. The woman ran out of the house and the man followed and continued to beat her. The woman, according to the report,  grabbed a knife and stabbed the man on the left side of the chest. Ramsubhag slumped to the ground, where he died. The district medical officer viewed the body and ordered its removal to the Forensic Sciences Centre, where an autopsy is expected to be performed today. Police investigating the killing said yesterday that the man frequently abused the woman during the six years she had known him. When Newsday visited the scene yesterday,  relatives who live a few feet behind the suspect’s house, refused to speak about the incident.

However, the suspect’s friend told Newsday that she (the suspect) had confided to her about previous beating at the hands of the male relative. The friend, who did not want to be named, said on Monday the suspect and Ramsubhag had attended a Christmas get-together at her house in Enterprise. She said around 7 pm Ramsubhag began to insult and argue with the suspect. And when they left during the wee hours of the morning, the friend said that the suspect was very upset. Visiting the scene yesterday was a party of policemen from the Freeport Police Station and San Fernando Homicide Bureau.
