US thanks TT for Katrina
PRIME MINISTER Patrick Manning yesterday received a copy of a resolution from the United States House of Representatives which thanked all foreign governments, organisations and individuals which offered various forms of assistance and support persons affected by the August 29 2005 passage of Hurricane Katrina through the US Gulf Coast region. The Government of Trinidad and Tobago had provided US$2 million ($12.6 million) in financial aid to assist Hurricane Katrina relief efforts in the US. The resolution which was presented to Manning at Whitehall yesterday by US Ambassador to TT, Dr Roy Austin, expressed "the sincere gratitude of House of Representatives to the foreign individuals, organisations and governments that have offered material assistance and other forms of support to those who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina." Austin thanked the Prime Minister for Government’s "generous support" and expressed gratitude to the many TT citizens "who have donated their personal funds to help those in need in the Gulf Coast region of the US.
