Teen to be charged with killing relative
The Director of Public Prosecutions Geoffrey Henderson yesterday gave instructions to the police to charge a 19-year-old man with the unlawful killing of his 17-year-old relative. The manslaughter charge was laid against the teenager yesterday, and he will appear before a Port-of-Spain magistrate today. On Friday, Lisa Sammy was shot dead by a relative. According to reports, Sammy was at her Mon Repos home in Morvant at 11.30 am when a gun was accidentally fired. Sammy was shot in the mouth and rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. A 19-year-old relative was arrested and taken to the Morvant Police Station. Sammy, a Canadian citizen, began residing with relatives in Morvant five years ago and was expected to return to Canada shortly. Sgt Frederick of the Homicide Bureau laid the charge.
