Williams case put off to March 27

FORMER energy minister Eric Williams was back in court yesterday to answer seven charges of misbehaviour in public office.

Williams, Member of Parliament for Port-of-Spain South, was before Senior Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim in the Port-of-Spain Fourth Magistrates’ Court.

However, the police prosecutor asked for an adjournment so a State attorney could be retained to prosecute the case. Desmond Allum SC, who appeared for Williams, agreed to the adjournment, saying that he needed statements before he could prepare his defence.

The matter was then adjourned to March 27.

Williams was charged with seven counts of misbehaviour in public office in that he allegedly accepted $75,000 cash in bribes from PNM Councillor Dansam Dhansook in 2003 in St James. Appearing with Allum were attorneys Rajiv Persad and John Heath.
