Showtime at Central tent

CHAGUANAS calypso lovers will soon be hearing sweet kaiso when the Central Rainbow Calypso Stars Tent kicks off for showtime today at the Chaguanas Community Centre.

"This is the second year that we would be launching our calypso tent and we’d be having performances every Friday at the community centre from 8 pm," said kaisonian Kinte (Carey Stephens).

"Myself and fellow calypsonian Santa came with the idea to create the tent because we saw that Chaguanas was the only major population centre without a Calypso tent so we decided to change that and bring good Calypso to Chaguanas," Kinte said.

He said that the Central Rainbow Calypso Stars tent is assisted by the Trinbago Unified Calypsonians Organisation (TUCO).

Some of the calypsonians scheduled to perform at the Central Rainbow Calypso Stars tent are Natural, Santa D, Dr Martin, Bokie, Rando, Natural Devika, Ade Murai Saccharine, Slicky Charlie Tempo and Mystic Guru Monarch.

Kinte told Newsday that patrons will be hearing "a beautiful mixture of kaiso, from social commentary and humour to festival tunes."

The tent runs for for five weeks until Carnival Sunday.
