Three women held

Marijuana with a street value of over $800,000 was seized and three women ages 20 to 50 arrested during an exercise carried out by officers of the Tunapuna Police Station and two members of the Defence Force.

According to reports, around midday, the officers led by Ag Cpl Dianne Burgess, and Cpls Riley and Hernandez went to a house at Achong Street, Tunapuna, where they executed a search warrant for dangerous drugs.

Officers allegedly found 100 packets of compressed marijuana inside the house earmarked to be shipped abroad.

Three occupants of the house were promptly arrested and taken to the Tunapuna Police Station.

They were charged and will appear before a Tunapuna Magistrate tomorrow.

Other officers taking part in the exercise included PCs Peterson, Rajkumar, Sifontis, Ramroop, Fullerton, and Privates Carter and Edmund of the Defence Force.

Police sources told Sunday Newsday that the house was under surveillance for several days.
