Subhas willing to sacrifice seat for Ramesh/Panday unity
SUBHAS PANDAY is willing to make the "ultimate" sacrifice with his parliamentary seat for a Panday/Ramesh unity. "If the party asks me to give up my seat in the interest of unity, I will gladly do so," Panday said yesterday when asked to comment on the current stand-off between two warring factions in the UNC executive. Panday, the Opposition parliamentary representative for Princes Town, commented that aspiring for Government must always be the ultimate goal of the Opposition above personal views. Echoing sentiments of Opposition Leader Basdeo Panday that politics has a morality of its own, Subhas said that it is a matter for the UNC to re-shuffle the MPs and senators. "The party is much bigger than me. If I have to give up the Princes Town seat, I will do so for unity," Panday said. Submitting that crime is the issue in the society today, Panday welcomed Sunday’s rally in Chaguanas, in which former attorney general Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj will make his formal return to the UNC fold. "I have been making enormous contributions on crime in the Parliament. Crime is close to my heart. If unity among UNC supporters and those who want a place in the party will bring about unity, I’m for it," Panday said.
