Blushing Edna, 84, weds dashing Percival, 85

"IN THE evening of my life, God has given me a companion." This from blushing bride Edna Des Vignes, 84, of La Romaine, who yesterday exchanged marriage vows with her husband Percival Copeland, 85.

Copeland looked dashing in a brown suit and cream shirt as he took the first-time bride to be his lawful wedded wife.

This marriage, although the third for Copeland, was describ-ed by him as, "sheer bliss. I am finally happy, as I have found Edna. She is my pride and joy and all that I have ever wanted."

The nuptials which took place at the La Romaine Seventh Day Adventist Church, was officiated by Pastor Teelbaney Singh.

Des Vignes, dressed in a flowing floor-length baby blue gown and holding a bouquet made of blue roses and white lilies, walked down the church’s aisle with a broad smile on her face. Throughout the ceremony, the two kept looking lovingly at each other. The couple, according to Kathleen Skerrit who is a close friend of Copeland, met at the said church a year ago and according to Skerrit, "It was love at first sight."

Skerrit said, sometime around October, Copeland a former WASA employee went on bended knees (with some difficulty) and proposed to Edna, who is a former geriatric nurse. Des Vignes, a mother of one, accepted the marriage proposal with tears in her eyes, Skerrit said.

Sighs could be heard around the church as the couple promised to love and cherish each other until the day, "we both walk through heaven’s gates." The couple’s reception was held at the Headstart Kindergarten School at Pond Street, La Romaine.
