Mayor looks to brighter Downtown

Reflecting on the success of the event, a delighted Mayor of Port-of-Spain, Murchison Brown said yesterday, he was pleased with the turnout, yet he expects in future that the celebrations would continue to create the impact that it has always done on people who love Downtown Carnival.

Brown is chairman of the Downtown Carnival Committee (DCC), the body that ensures the continuing presence of mas in Port-of-Spain.

Brian Mac Farlane’s “Threads of Joy” was the best band on parade on Carnival Tuesday.

In the medium band category, Stephen Derek’s “All Quest for Glass,” took top honours.

Top band in the small band category was “Cultural Drums.”

“The First Americans” copped the top prize in the mini-band section.

Prizes were awarded for the most colourful bands, and in this area, “Rome — the Empire” proved to be the best in the Large category; “A Quest for Glass” (medium); “Cultural Drums” (small) and “Mas in Yuh Mas” (mini.) Generally, this year’s Carnival celebrations in Downtown Port-of-Spain proved to be as good as ever and the future looks even better.
