Man critical after fire
Nazir Moon is said to be warded in a critical condition at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH).
According to a police report, Moon, of Harmony Hall, was asleep in his wooden shack at about 3 am, when he was awakened by a burning sensation about his body.
The unemployed man’s house was ablaze, but he was unable to escape.
Moon lived alone.
Police said he survived daily through assistance from members of the public.
Preliminary fire investigations by the Mon Repos Fire Station, which was on the scene in record time, stated that there was a bush fire in close vicinity Moon’s home on Saturday.
The report stated that the blaze reignited during the early hours of yesterday morning and spread to Moon’s home.
Police said the man sustained first degree burns, as 90 percent of his body was burnt, while his house, valued at $10,000, was completely destroyed.
He was rushed to the SFGH via an EHS ambulance where he was treated and warded in a critical condition at the Intensive Care Unit.
Investigations are continuing.
