Gang leader denied bail on gun charge

Alfonso, 37, of Dorata Street, Laventille, is charged with possession of an AK-47 rifle, an UZI machine gun, a pump-action shotgun, ammunition, and $100,000 worth of marijuana.

The US deportee was granted bail in the sum of $800,000 with a surety when he appeared before Magistrate Avason Quinlan at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Court on March 15.

The bail was revoked by Soo Hon one week later following an historical appeal by the Attorney General. After hearing submissions from both State and defence attorneys, Soo Hon reserved judgment for yesterday. Alfonso was denied bail and the prosecution was directed to expedite the Preliminary Inquiry.
