‘Pres’ Chaguanas win schools title

Needing 211 runs for first innings points and the title, St Mary’s were dismissed for 208.

In a contest where fortunes fluctuated, “Pres” secured victory when Peter John-Rodriguez was caught by Ryan Barrasingha off the bowling off Valmikee Deonarine for a workmanlike 52, just when it seemed that the title was heading to St Mary’s for the first time in 15-years.

It was also double celebration for “Pres” who also celebrated the selection of ace batsman Adrian Barath to the senior team for Friday’s Carib Beer Shield semi final against the Windward Islands at Guaracara Park.

In an evenly contested match before a large crowd, CIC resumed on their overnight position of 63 for four with TT Under-19 vice-captain Nicholas Alexis on 37 and skipper Luke Balwant yet to score.

The pair defied the early morning spin attack and pushed the score to 95 before they were separated.

The elegant Alexis was trapped leg before wicket by Quadir Shah for 52 which came in 170 minutes with three fours.

With no addition to the score, Balwant was snapped up by Deonarine off Barrasingha’s bowling for 17.

“Man-of-the-Match” Valmikee Maharaj (34) and John-Rodriguez then teamed up in a seventh wicket partnership of 74 that caused some anxious moments for Presentation College before the breakthrough came.

Wickets then tumbled as John-Rodriguez ran out of partners, giving Presentation College the title. (CMC)
