Beacon sponsor cyclist Greene

The sponsorship deal is called the Team Greene Structure and Beacon has taken up Greene’s training tab because the company views him as a promising athlete to be developed.

This was announced by Beacon Insurance’s Public Relations Officer Michael Phillips at a press conference held yesterday at the Beacon Insurance Company office, Stanmore Avenue, Port-of-Spain.

“Beacon is sponsoring the gold package which is $3,000 a month for three years for Elisha’s training,” he said.

While Greene has received financial assistance from other businesses in the past, Phillips noted that this was not done in a structured manner.

“This financial assistance has come in the form of contributions and donations,” he revealed. “However, with this structure, Beacon is the gold sponsor of the Team Greene thus helping him with basic costs to make him into a better cyclist.”

Phillips said the second and third parts of the Team Greene sponsorship deal is called the silver and supporter packages respectively.

The total figure, said Phillips, for the entire three-tier Team Greene sponsorship package was $11,000 although no other sponsorship has been received as yet for the silver and supporter categories.

“As the managing-director of Phillip’s Promotions,” he stated, “it’s my duty to go out and find the other sponsors. Sso it’s not the responsibility of Beacon to encourage the other sponsors to get involved.”

Phillip’s Promotions is the managerial and promotional company for Greene and the organiser of The Beacon West Indies versus the World Cycling Series.

Beacon Insurance Company Ltd sponsors this international cycling championship.

Phillips, on behalf of Beacon Insurance Company Ltd, also presented a cheque amounting to $75,000 to the executive manager of The Heroes Foundation, Savina Ramkissoon.

“This is the third year that we’re sponsoring the Heroes Foundation, so it’s an annual project,” he said, “and we’re doing this because so that the foundation can keep on developing and maintaining its Youth Development and Mentoring Projects.”
