CARIRI launches Food Safety Centre

The formal ceremony was held at the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business in Mt Hope.

The centre, located at the UWI headquarters of CARIRI, is an arm of the institute’s Biotechnology Unit and will work with the other agencies in a collaborative effort to improve the food industry.

“It will enlist the support of private and public sector organisations and other stakeholder groups as it pursues its mandate,” Margaret Taylor, unit leader of CARIRI’s Biotechnology Unit said during the launch. She said the centre is also intended to educate farmers, food manufacturers, food service providers, distributors, regulatory bodies, consumers and school children on good food safety practices and to influence change in legislation and infrastructure support for food safety management in the region.
