$1 million ransom for car dealer

According to unconfirmed reports, the ransom demand was made via a telephone call to Mahabir’s wife hours after he was kidnapped. Mahabir and his wife, a schoolteacher, have two children and live at Matilda Junction, Princes Town. When Sunday Newsday visited the house yesterday, relatives refused to speak to the media.

Mahabir was kidnapped by two men who pushed him into a blue Toyota Corolla on Friday. His was the second kidnapping in as many days, and followed the kidnapping on Thursday night of Joey Alexander, 21, the son of Joseph Alexander, owner of Nakayama Imports. Alexander, of St Joseph, was still in the hands of his kidnappers up to late yesterday.
