Suspected suicide in south

Police reports said Roopa Badoon, of Fullerton Village, died at the San Fernando General Hospital early yesterday morning, after drinking a poisonous substance.

Relatives told police that Badoon had been receiving treatment for post-partum depression for several months. On Saturday, police were told that Badoon went to her mother’s home at Los Gallos to spend the weekend.

Relatives told police that Badoon went to sleep on Saturday at about 9.30 pm. One hour later her brother, Ravi, heard her groaning in the bedroom. Ravi told police when he checked on her, he found her frothing from her mouth. A plastic bottle containing a purple liquid was found in the bedroom, police said.

She was rushed to the Point Fortin Area Hospital for treatment and later transferred to the San Fernando General Hospital.

An autopsy is expected to be carried out today.
