Boynes wants cheaper tickets
Boynes made the appeal at his ministry, Abercromby Street, Port-of-Spain in announcing the launch of a table tennis development programme.
Tickets for the last match before the Soca Warriors leave for the World Cup Finals in Germany are priced at $500 for the covered stands and $300 for the uncovered section.
Boynes suggested the prices of the tickets should be affordable to all. He said Government has made provision to subsidise the prices of the tickets to see the national football team in the $45 million approved for the team’s preparation leading up to the Finals..
Last year football fans had to fork out $300 for covered stands and $150 for the uncovered section when TT played Bahrain in the first of two play-off matches to qualify for the World Cup at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
It is believed that the prices of the tickets were kept down because of a government subsidy.
The May 10 match will be the last time local fans will be seeing the Soca Warriors in action before they depart for Europe.
TT open their campaign against Sweden on June 10 in Dormund and will face England in their second Group “B” encounter June 15 in Nuremberg. They will wrap-up the preliminary round against South American Paraguay on June 20 in Kaiserslautern.
