Sports medicine seminar in P/Town

The seminar, on April 28 at the Princes Town Senior Comprehen-sive School, will bring an end to the month of activities hosted by the PTDHF in keeping with Health Promotion Month.

The Pan American Health Organisation and World Health Organisation have designated April as Health Promotion Month.

In keeping with the theme, PTDHF, who was awarded the 2005 Quality Award by the Ministry of Health, hosted a series of seminars on skin care, nutrition, and a healthy life style.

On Wednesday, a special seminar was hosted on the facilities compound to discuss stress management in the workplace and the importance of positive parenting.

Mental Health Officers Abraham Abdool and Kelvin Jaggernath, who co-ordinated the stress management segment advised employees on how to deal with work related stress.

Some of the tips included starting off the day with an early breakfast, avoid getting caught up in a daily routine and spending quality time at home or at the office with family and friends.

Both Jaggernath and Abdool reminded employees that it also was very important for them to respect themselves and others.

District Health Officer Erica Joseph who spoke on positive parenting told parents that discipline, encouragement, and quality time were fundamental practices in the upbringing of her child.

Urging parents not to shout at children as a means of discipline, Joseph, stressed that it is vital for parents to apologise and ask for forgiveness when wrong judgments were made.

Joseph, also noted that it was essential for parents to praise children for minimal improvements and contributions they make.
