Robbery suspect shot

The suspect was rushed to the San Fernando General Hospital where he underwent emergency surgery to removefour bullets in his chest. He is said to be in a critical condition and is warded under police guard.

The shooting incident occurred within a half hour after the suspect allegedly robbed Natasha Guy, 26, and Kurt Rodney, 28, over $10,000 in cash and jewelry during a party in Couva. Police believe that the suspect was also involved in separate robberies on Friday night in which Noel Web, 37, Rachel Braveboy, 19 and Sheldon Nurse, 22, were robbed of a total of $15,000 in cash and jewelry.

It was about 4 am yesterday that three officers of the Couva Police Station went to Time Out bar at Southern Main Road, Couva after receiving a tip off that the suspect was liming at the bar.

A police report stated that PC Adams went inside the bar where he attempted to arrest the suspect.

The man resisted and a scuffle ensued between the suspect and the policeman. They ended up at the entrance of the bar, and according to a police report, the suspect attempted to pull out his firearm from his pants.

It was at this point, the report stated, that one of the policemen opened fire and the suspect was shot four times in his chest.

Police then secured the suspect’s pistol loaded with two rounds of ammunition.

The officers also recovered a quantity of stolen jewelry which was found in his possession.

The officers rushed the man to the hospital. Sgt Donny Ramlogan is investigating the shooting incident.
